Welcome to 2nd Somerset scout group
Since our establishment on 12th October 1956, we have been training, equipping and developing young people. Since our inception we have become one of the most successful groups in South Africa, regularly winning Provincial Cub and Scout competitions.
In 2024, we were very excited to officially launched our Meerkat Den, which works with ages 5 – 7. Our Cub Pack is from ages 7 – 11 and the Scout Troop is from ages 11 – 18.
Further to the groups that we have, in South Africa, we also have Rovers which is for ages 18 – 30.

What is Scouting?
216Scouting is an international youth movement established in 1907 by Lord Robert Baden-Powell in the United Kingdom. To date it has a membership of over 55 million boys, girls, youth and adult leaders from 216 countries.
With an global vision of “creating a better world”, Scouting aims to encourage the spiritual, mental, social and physical development of young people so that they may realise their full potential as individuals, responsible citizens and members of their local, national and international communities.
This is achieved through a structured programme of non-formal education which focusses on: developing character, training members in citizenship and developing member’s spiritual, social, mental and physical qualities.

Meeting Times
We meet regularly on a Friday at the following times:
Cubs: 16h30 – 18h00
Scouts: 19h00 – 21h00
Rovers: TBC
Please note that we do not meet on Public and school holidays.
Scouting Groups
Meerkats (age 5 – 7)
In 2024, we officially launched our Meerkat Den to enable us to work with younger children through an excellent program. This foundational stage of life is searching for fun, learning and discovering what community is. All this while achieving lots of badges!
Cubs (age 7 – 11)
We have an amazingly long legacy within our Cub Pack. Empowering young people to learn skills, self motivate, develop as people and leaders, learning how to grow within a community, being rewarded and having lots of fun & new experiences!
Scouts (age 11 – 18)
Scouts is where it all began for both us, and Scouting in general. Scouts is run by the scouters themselves with oversight from the Group Scout Leader. All the skills and fun learnt from the other programs are enhanced!
Adult Leaders
The phrase once a scout always a scout is true for many of us. Scouts is a voluntary organisation run by people who are passionate about how scouting has changed their lives, and determined to see that change replicated in others!
